Being a Student at SCCC in the Digital Age
Congrats! You are a student at SCCC in the what is called the digital age. You have a smartphone, tablets and access to all the information the internet has to offer within seconds. You also are enrolled in a school that will use technology to provide student information, course materials and even extra help with your classes. Below are links and information about online tools that are available to you as a student attending SCCC.
MySCCC – This is the Suffolk County Community College’s portal. From here, students can access their school email, register for classes and also access other areas such as Blackboard and the Virtual Learning Commons.
Blackboard – This is the course management system the school uses for teachers to provide their course materials online. If you are taking an online course at SCCC, you might need to be logging into Blackboard on a daily basis so keep this link bookmarked on your browser. If you are new to Blackboard then check out the Student Guide to Blackboard and learn everything you need to know about Blackboard, being an online student and where you can find help with any of your Blackboard courses.
Microsoft Office 365 – SCCC Students now have the ability to get Microsoft Office 365 for free just by using their MySCCC account. It allows students to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access on up to 5 devices (Windows or Mac) and Office apps on other mobile devices including Windows tablets and iPads. It also includes 1TB of OneDrive storage.
Academic Computing Centers – On all three campuses, there are computer labs for students to use for academic purposes. There are both Windows and MAC computer labs. Specific software is loaded on the computers that pertains to the courses offered on that campus. Please visit the webpage of the ACC on the campus you wish to attend for their locations, hours and software.
Library – The libraries at Suffolk County Community College offer services and resources for students enrolled in distance education courses. SCCC students enrolled in online classes have full borrowing privileges from the library and full access to online resources.
The libraries provides the following to all SCCC students including those enrolled in online courses:
- Borrowing privileges at all 3 campus libraries
- Interlibrary and intercampus loan
- Online access to database, journals, newspapers, streaming media, and e-books
- Access to online assistance via email
- Access to online library tutorials and research guides
- Open access at all SUNY libraries
Off Campus Access to Library Resources: To gain access to Online Library Resources from an off campus computer, enter in your MySCCC username and password whenever prompted to.
